Max found an old pen i had forgotten i had, a pilot varsity disposable fountain pen. they used to sell those in one single store here in town — the local community college's bookstore — but stopped carrying them years ago.
for a fountain pen that's been sitting around untouched (with the cap on) for, oh, two or three years now, it sure started up writing very neatly, no problems or complaints at all.
it's got a "medium" nib, or so it claims. it's certainly wider-writing than the other two, that's for sure. i think i like the narrower ones better, but it's nice to have a point of comparison.
online in the fountain pen forums (yes, there are such things. surprisingly many members in 'em, too) some nutcases actually refill these things. that's not supposed to be possible, and the method they claim to use screams "huge mess in the making" at my hindbrain, plus you need something to refill it from. but, hm... i do like to tinker.
